Founder and CEO, Flagship Pioneering
Noubar Afeyan is Founder and CEO of Flagship Pioneering, a venture capital firm he founded in 1999. During his 25-year career as an inventor, entrepreneur, CEO and venture capitalist, he has co-founded and helped build 25 life science and technology startups. He is also a Senior Lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management where, since 2000, he has been teaching courses on technology entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership. A frequent guest speaker at technology forums throughout the US, he has authored numerous scientific publications and patents since earning his PhD in Biochemical Engineering from MIT in 1987.
He is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as the Board of Trustees of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Moscow and serves on several advisory boards including the World Economic Forum’s Emerging Technology Council, Whitehead Institute at MIT, the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), the Boston University Medical School. Noubar is also actively engaged in several development projects related to Armenia, including being a board member of the National Competitiveness Foundation and The Armenian General Benevolent Union.
