Job Summary

Teachers at UWC Dilijan are educators in the widest sense following the UWC educational model. They are role-models that see opportunities to further our students’ education both inside and outside the classroom. They are expected to engage fully in all areas of College life: academic, CAS (including our activities, outdoor programme and service learning) and residential life.

Responsibilities

  • To create a safe, effective and stimulating learning environment appropriate to the needs of the students using their diversity as an asset;

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with the students becoming a role model and someone they can turn to;

  • To ensure a high quality learning experience for the students in the classes allocated by the Head of Faculty and Deputy Head. In order to do so, both individual, collaborative planning and collaborative resource preparation are essential;

  • To provide feedback for successful learning. UWC Dilijan considers providing regular feedback to the students using a variety of methods to be essential;

  • To assess, evaluate and record students learning on the systems employed by the College regularly. This includes maintaining accurate and up-to-date attendance;

  • To engage continuously in professional learning in order to keep up to date with developments in education in general and in the relevant subject areas;

  • To participate in all other activities and duties as shall be reasonably requested by the Head.
     

Tutor

This is a key role dedicated to developing a close relationship with the tutees as well as creating a reflective and supportive community within the tutor group. Each tutor oversees the educational experience of the tutees entrusted to them. In order to do so, tutors lead a combination of scheduled tutorials, individual meetings and activities.
Our tutors are their tutees’ CAS advisor, ensuring that they have adequate, balanced and reasonable CAS commitments. They also monitor their reflections about their learning in CAS and engage in them using to encourage deeper and more meaningful reflections.Particularly important are the CAS interviews at the beginning and end of each College year to establish goals, and to get a sense of the student’s progress and areas of difficulty.
If one of their tutees fails to meet the College’s expectations, the tutor will be the student’s advocate and accompany the student in any disciplinary procedures. Where appropriate, tutors will be in contact with parents and with the Residential Houseparent. They will also liaise with the Careers Counsellor to provide testimonials and other materials as needed.

Residential Life Activities

Living in an intentionally diverse residential community is an integral part of the UWCD experience. All staff members are expected to be involved in our residential life programme, whether it is as a Houseparent (residents on campus and in loco parentis for a group of students) or an Assistant Houseparent (resident off-campus and performing residential duties according to the roster).
 

Outdoor Education and Service Learning

Our teachers are expected to engage in all areas of our educational programme, sharing their interests and their passions. The Staff Handbook will provide guidelines for this.
