What participants say about their summer camp experience

Julian
UWCD’24, alumnus of the UWC/JDI programme

“Just Dilijan It! taught me about intercultural understanding, mutual respect and protecting the environment, ultimately leading to my decision to study IB at UWC Dilijan and pursue Russian/Eurasian Studies at Leiden. I highly recommend the program for teens with an interest in global issues and in meeting people from diverse countries and backgrounds.”

We were on vacation in Armenia when our tour guide suggested that we visit UWC Dilijan. The school officials explained UWC's focus on intercultural understanding, integrity, sustainability and community service and its Just Dilijan It! summer camp, in which middle and high schoolers put those values into action while they make friends from all over the globe. Our son Julian attended the camp, and it left such a positive impression that he enrolled in UWC Dilijan's IB program and is now pursuing an International Studies degree.

Hi, I am Arevik! I have attended the JDI camp in UWC Dilijan twice and am now a first year student at UWC Robert Bosch College in Germany. What makes JDI special is it takes place in UWC Dilijan which gives access to such a wide variety of activities. This makes it very easy to find something you will enjoy. Additionally, you are in a diverse community of peers with whom you end up making great friendships that make the camp experience so memorable. And I would also mention how interesting and passionate all of the organizers of the camp and different activities were which made everything we did feel very genuine and authentic where you could speak with the adults as if they were also your friends.
Hey, my name is Aram! I’m currently living in Dilijan, Armenia. I am a first-year student at UWC Dilijan College. What sets JDI apart from any other summer camp is that you get to experience almost every aspect of UWC life without the academic pressure of the IB diploma. Dilijan is a beautiful city and the campus facilities are amazing, however it is the people who make it truly special. I still keep in contact with many of them from the camp, especially the facilitators. They are some of the most genuine and wonderful people I know, and they are the ones who really make the JDI experience what it really is. The biggest thing for me (about the JDI/UWC summer camp experience) was being surrounded by UWC students and alumni. Hearing their stories during those late-night talks was incredibly inspiring and motivated me to take the leap and apply to the United World Colleges. Those moments, and the people I met at “Just Dilijan It!” are the reason I am here as a student today.

Dear organizers, counselors, and facilitators of children's summer recreation! I would like to express my immense gratitude and appreciation for your invaluable work! According to my daughter, she enjoyed everything tremendously, and this experience will stay with her for many, many years to come! To organize such a program, one must possess patience, great love, respect, the ability to be on the same wavelength as the children — to be genuinely needed, sincere, honorable, engaging, and truly passionate about what you do. And all of this you have in abundance! I sincerely thank you and wish you all the very best!
