Sabastian Abelezele (Ghana, UWCD’16) and Marcos dos Santos (Brazil, UWCD’16) are first-generation graduates. Their friendship endured, despite both of them trying their hand on each other as barbers! In the picture Saba is cutting Marcos's hair for the first time (Dilijan, 2015) and Marcos returning the favour 8 years later (Atlanta, US, 2023). It helped that Saba and Marcos attended the same educational institutions over a nine-year period as the evidence shows.
Varda Avetisyan, entrepreneur and owner of Tava restaurant, helped make the festive dinner at our inaugural Alumni Reunion on 1 August a truly memorable occasion. Tava welcomed our alumni with a programme designed to reconnect them with Armenian traditions - from music to lavash-making.
This year, 15 of our students participated in the Fermat Contest, an international mathematics competition organised by the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing.
In 2024, Katya Guryeva (Russia, UWCD ’17) ran 862 km across Armenia along the Transcaucasian Trail, setting a Fastest Known Time with her team. Her journey is now featured in the short film Across Armenia, created by Katya and fellow UWCD alumni.
