Armenia, իմ սեր, իմ սիրտ, իմ տուն
  • Stories of Alumni

As I reflect on the last two years, my heart overflows with gratitude. Armenia, from August 2022 to May 2024, you were more than just a place—I found my home in your mountains, your streets, your people.

From the tranquil waters of Parz Lich and Sevan Lake to the towering peaks of Mount Ararat, your beauty grounded me. Շնորհակալություն (shnorhakalutyun) to the people of Dilijan, Yerevan, Gyumri, Ijevan and beyond who welcomed me with open arms. The taste of gata, the warmth of khorovats shared with friends, and the joy of raising a glass of tuti oghi—these memories will forever be etched in my heart.

You taught me the true meaning of hospitality, generosity, and resilience. Every moment, from the laughter in Lori’s vineyards to the ancient whispers of Haghartsin, reminded me of who I am and who I aspire to be.

Armenia, you gave me a sense of belonging I never knew I needed. This isn’t just a goodbye, but a մինչ հանդիպում (minch handipum)—until we meet again. I will miss your sunsets overArarat, the smell of freshly baked lavash, and most of all, the feeling of home you gave me.

"Meeting so many people from so many different parts of the world.” The key goal, he emphasizes, is intercultural understanding. Everyone learns “through the personal background each of us brings.” It was only at UWC Armenia that Jonas truly realized “how valuable it is that we’re all different. I never saw it that clearly before.”
