Bio
I have just over four years of international school teaching experience within the UWC movement. I have taught Geography at IB, IGCSE and KS3 level. I have also taught Theory of knowledge and supported Extended Essay writing through facilitating Academic Writing lessons. Additionally, have taught IGCSE Global Perspectives and supervised CAS experiences for Lower School and IB students. I am heavily involved in outdoor education and absolutely love teaching! Before joining the UWC movement I worked in corporate for the Eswatini Environment Authority reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments. I also conducted a survey on single use plastic bags in Eswatini which was used to lobby for a policy to reduce the overall use of said plastic bags in my country through the use of a plastic bag levy. I love research, nature, art, literature, beautiful architecture and learning new things.
What is the favourite part of the course you teach?
I teach many courses but in all of them, I love watching each student develop their confidence to share their knowledge with the rest of the class. For some this can take some time but once they do, it is amazing to watch. I particularly enjoy that moment when things start clicking for them and they are able to synthesise all the knowledge they have gained overtime.
Which teaching method do you prefer and why?
I lean towards a more student-centred approach. A lot of interesting discussions are had in my class and usually play the role of a facilitator of these discussions. Students are given opportunities to do research and share their knowledge with the rest of the class. I also incorporate games and the odd simulation if the opportunity arises. I try my best to make lessons engaging, fun and rooted in the real world.
What is your life motto?
It's actually a quote on my wall by Albert Einstein "Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving". I apply it to every aspect of my life.
What are the three things you can't imagine your life without?
My family, laptop and my planner!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I travel, go hiking and/or camping and go on game drives. I also enjoy going to the beach, reading, writing, planning and catching up with friends.
