Education
- Post-Graduate Assistantship in Piano Performance, Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Conservatory, Russia
- Master of Music - Komitas State Conservatory, Yerevan, Armenia
Bio
As a teacher of piano I have worked at a range of institutions including Komitas State Conservatory (Armenia), Brookline Music School (USA), Leningrad State Conservatory (Russia), Newton Country Day School (USA), and Nexus Centre for the Art (Armenia). Through these experiences I have contributed to the acquisition of piano skills by many people from different countries and nations.
Aside from teaching I have also been fortunate to perform as a concert pianist in Armenia, Russia, Europe, Canada and US. I performed live on Armenian national television and appeared as a soloist with different chamber orchestras, often premiering new compositions. For many years, I was the harpsichordist of the Armenian National Chamber Orchestra, and after moving to the US - served as organist for the Holy Trinity Armenian Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
What is the favourite part of the course you teach?
My favourite part is when I begin to feel that my students start to enjoy music with passion and develop a real love for the instrument.
What is your ideal classroom environment?
An ideal classroom environment is created when a student and a teacher are both in a learning mindset, ready to discover music together.
What advice would you give to a student of your subject?
Keep a consistent practice and keep seeking sounds and performances that inspire your ears and your imagination.
Who is your role model or mentor or who inspires you?
There are a lot of people. But the first one was Ann Schein, an American pianist. I heard her when I was just 6 years old and that was the moment I decided to become a pianist.
What is your life motto?
Be in harmony with yourself!
What are the three things you can't imagine your life without?
Music, Family and Friends
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love walking, (especially around new cities), reading (usually more than one book at a time, even if sometimes it takes forever), and going to concerts with my friends.
