Parents

Given that our college has students from around the world and that our location is somewhat remote, parent engagement in the day-to-day life of UWCD is limited. Despite that, we actively seek parents who are willing to contribute time and knowledge to make the learning experience for their child and other students richer and broader.

We invite parents to:

  • Participate in our regular town hall meetings.
  • Participate in the activities of the UWCD parent organisation – the Parent Council.

  • Follow the latest developments by subscribing to our newsletter, following the social media and visiting the website (which has a Facebook feed on the main page).
  • Contribute by speaking at our events and offer expertise as appropriate.
  • Provide feedback via surveys or by corresponding directly with the relevant staff.
  • Join us for in-person gatherings where possible.

Parent Council  The UWCD Parent Council, launched in 2020/21, aims to facilitate connections between UWCD parents and families. We work together with the Head and staff of the school to support the best possible learning and living experience for our children, in line with the Mission and Values of UWCD.

What We Do

  • Connect: Act as a bridge between parents and the UWCD management on topics that matter to the parent community at large.
  • Build Community: Create opportunities for parents to meet, share, and support one another.
  • Support Events: Lend a hand in school events and activities alongside staff.
  • Advise: Offer support, feedback and constructive suggestions to the management team at UWCD.

Current Focus Areas

  • Communication: Keeping everyone in the loop and interact via Parent Council updates and UWCD parent WhatsApp groups.
  • Graduation: Helping make this milestone celebration extra special.
  • Fundraising: Supporting and promoting initiatives.
  • Onboarding: Running a buddy system to welcome new families to UWCD.
  • UWCD & Beyond: Involving parents in fostering a supportive and vibrant school community. Engaging parents in career and university guidance, student hosting, and internships for current students and alumni.
